The poems in this collection were written while the author was dividing his time between California and New York from the early 70s into the early 90s. The poems are placed in four roughly chronological “books” within those times and spaces—Berkeley Trees, Blaxgangster / Orisha, Cali / Atzlan, and Neo.
Author Biography:
Award-winning poet David Henderson’s previous books of poetry are Felix of the Silent Forest, De Mayor of Harlem, and The Low East. He received a grant from the California Acts Council in 1002 for “New Genre” writing and poetry , and has recorded a selection of his poetry for the permanent archive of the Library of Congress. A founding member of the Umbra Workshop and an editor of Umbra publications, Henderson was a co-founder of the East Village Other, an alternative newspaper, and also a founder of the Third World department at Pacifica KPFA radio, Berkeley, Califonia. He has been a consultant-at-large to Tribes magazine in New York. He resides in downtown New York City.
